Dear Friends,
In a very dark time in the history of the world has there ever been uttered more encouraging words than those above? If the world ever needed a Saviour it’s definitely now.
As we enter this upcoming Christmas season I’d like you to imagine something with me. Think about being locked up at the age of 14 or 15 or 16 and being sentenced for one or two years or possibly even until your 21st birthday. Then imagine there is a pandemic and everything comes to a crashing halt. No school. No programming. No church or Bible study. No visits from family or friends. All you have is your day to day existence with the same guys or girls or staff day after day after day. Does it sound pretty miserable?
That’s where the young men and women we serve find themselves today. Yes, we do Zoom Bible studies and Zoom Character Development classes and have mentoring phone calls but let’s be honest. It’s not the same, is it? Most of you had to attend your church digitally at least for a period of time. We, as humans created in God’s image, crave fellowship. It’s how we were made! So imagine being a young man or woman incarcerated and how much more they must be struggling.
I believe this year’s Christmas Care Kit event is more important than any single year in the past. Even though we can’t do our parties with the kids (though we will still be sending in Dion’s pizza, Christmas cookies and soda as well as their Kits) this year the Christmas Care Kit brings a message of HOPE which our young men and women desperately need to hear right now. Every single thing in the Kit is there to inspire, encourage, and bring some joy to these young men and women. And most importantly, it lets them know that they are NOT forgotten, that they are loved.
